Lesley Smith is George Eliot

The George Eliot Fellowship first approached Lesley Smith in 2019 to ask if she would consider including George Eliot as part of her repertoire. She agreed and started to research Eliot’s life and immersed herself in the novels and letters and the world premiere of her George Eliot, billed as ‘Meet the Woman’ took place in the Abbey Theatre in March 2019 before a capacity audience.

Lesley kindly repeated her performance for our Middlemarch festival in March 2023 and it is a testament to her love of George Eliot that she has agreed to do another performance at the theatre where it was first performed.
