George Eliot and Faith
This is the first event of the year devoted to our theme for 2017 - George Eliot and Faith.
Our speakers for the day are:
Professor Valentine Cunningham
Imagining the Essence of Christianity: Religion, Heart and Mind in George Eliot
Professor Cunningham is well known for his research, his various posts at Oxford University, his radio appearances, and as a Booker prize judge, and lecturer all over the world. He also sometimes preaches and plays jazz.
The Faith and Practice of George Eliot's Clergymen
Michael Harris has a wide knowledge of clerics in real life and in fiction, especially in local Methodism, about which he is a published author. His papers are always scintillating and humorous, with the assured delivery of a lay preacher.
Rev Canon Edward Pogmore
Looking in the Mirror: George Eliot and Faith
Edward Pogmore was chaplain to the George Eliot Hospital for many years, and also loves the writer. He always has perceptive and challenging things to say about both faith and George Eliot.
George Eliot and Mindfulness
