Annual Birthday Luncheon 2017
Sunday, 19 November 2017 at 12.30pm
The annual birthday luncheon always takes place on the Sunday nearest to George Eliot's birthday. Please arrive at Chilvers Coton Heritage Centre for 12:30pm as we are aiming to sit down for 1:00pm.
Our guest of honour this year will be Professor Philip Davis from Liverpool University, whose latest book The Transferred Life of George Eliot (OUP) was published in March 2017 to great acclaim, a rare feat when so many books on George Eliot jostle for attention.
Professor Davis's earlier biography was of Bernard Malamud. He will be accompanied by his wife, Dr Jane Davis, who founded and is director of The Reader. They are both heavily involved in the work involved, and Philip is Director of the Centre for Research into Reading, Literature and Society.
The meal at Coton will be a three course carvery and is provisionally priced at £20 though we are not taking money until the next Newsletter is published in September. The price might rise a bit depending on what extras we arrange to provide with the caterers. A menu will also be available online from September.
Members can reserve a place via the Newsletter distributed in March.
